Highland Lakes Retired Teachers Association is a local chapter of TRTA (Texas Retired Teachers Association) which is open to all Texas public school retirees; teachers, bus drivers, administrators, cafeteria workers.  If you receive a TRS annuity, you can JOIN TRTA and any local chapter of TRTA convenient to you. HLRTA and TRTA are dedicated to supporting retired public school retirees through advocacy, community involvement, and providing opportunities for social and professional networking. Our members have a wealth of experience and knowledge that they bring to our organization, and we work together to make a difference in our community.  HLRTA members include teachers, administrators, school secretaries and finance folks and a bus driver! Meeting programs are focused on topics of interest (gardening or a field trip), relevance (promote the passing of Prop 9 in the fall general election), and food (snacks and 2 luncheons a year).

Yogi Bordiya.jpeg
Guest speaker Yogi Bordiya spoke to Highland Lakes retired teachers at the February 2026 meeting.  His topic was Sip Smart, Live Well.  He focused on the younger generations (like our grandchildren) and the importance of drinking enough water and avoiding the heavily sugared and caffeinated sodas, juices and even energy drinks.  Even if these drinks are not heavily sugared, they often contain various other additives that can have harmful effects if used over long periods of time.  Insulin resistance (diabetes), bone loss, tooth enamel decay and weakening, and kidney and liver functions are all impacted by what our grandchildren drink over childhood and into adulthood. He asks the question, "What is in YOUR glass?" Click here!
